All versions of WP 5.1 (both, the US-release and the german release as well as every other countries release) can be used with a lot of languages; the only things you need, are the files for the respective countries (and of course, you have to set the language-shortcuts)! For example: WP{WP}US.THS (english thesaurus) or WP{WP}DE.THS (german thesaurus) WP{WP}US.LEX (english dictionary) or WP{WP}DE.LEX (german dictionary) WP{WP}US.HYC (english hyphenation) or WP{WP}DE.HYC (german hyphenation) and so on... I wouldn't MM> want to use their SPELLER program if they hadn't. First of all, it is no longer considered good practice to use double spaces following periods, etc. I see you still do, as do I. It's such a habit with me - and I don't care that much. If I am going to print a text with full justification, I may search for and delete the second space. Second, (I'm talking WordPerfect dos 6.1 here) It's probably QuickCorrect that's giving them trouble. It can be configured as you please, or turned off completely. It can even make one space into two at the end of a sentence. Third, The SPELLER has a setup menu that gives you some choices on what it does. You can have it prompt on auto-replace. You do not have to accept SPELLER or GRAMMATIK's suggestions. Set them up so YOU make all the decisions The point is: WordPerfect can be used for many things in many ways. Different styles of writing, different kinds of text, different moods you are in may dictate what features you want to use. You can use Macros to turn on and off features according to your desire at the moment. As an example: I sometimes am working with a large graphic. The automatic backup feature is a pain there - it takes too long. I have it set to back up every 5 minutes, and with a large graphic it may spend more time backing up than it does letting me work. My solution is a Macro I named Bk_Off which disables this feature. And, since I'm apt to forget I did that, WordPerfect is loaded with the Bk_On Macro run to re-enable it. WordPerfect and it's appendages are excellent writing tools, IMO. Yes, it has some faults. But a lot of those faults are the user's: it can do so much that we don't understand everything and maybe don't realize we can configure it to eliminate the problem. If you just want pure typing and absolutely no help of suggestions, i.e., a typewriter, use EDIT! Here's an item I think WordPerfect fails in - tho it's probably because I don't understand why it does it. Suppose I enter a large document, with tables and graphics, color, stuff that is going to make printing slow at best. Then I want a dozen copies. First it must Image Graphics Text, etc., then it must send the data to the printer. Ready for copy #2, it does it all over again. Why can't it save the Image from one copy for the next? That's what I would do.... I think. There must be a reason why it doesn't or can't, but I don't know what it is. It seems to me like a bug, but it's probably a feature! *:o) FIDO: Bill White @ 1:135/110 (Miami) InterNet: bill.white@110.sunshine.com * SLMR 2.1a * I'm not just the ruler of the galaxy...I'm also a cat! --- Maximus 2.01wb * Origin: Miami Amateur Computer Club BBS/USR Courier V.E (1:135/110) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 163 WORD PERFECT Ref: E3J00003 Date: 03/14/97 From: TIM HUTZLER Time: 12:36pm \/To: ALL (Read 4 times) Subj: Has Corel fixed the bugs Hi; I have a l-o-n-g list of bugs that I hope that Corel has fixed. Things like the horz position of a line shifting up at some point to the right of any supershift chars that happen to be on the line. Or, if I "edit" a "draw" box the dimentions of the box will sometimes roughly double, or half (intermittently) and it is irreversable as fa as I know. Oh, there are too many to list, sorry. I *know* Corel is aware of these problems. I think that's why the product was dumped on the market at under $40 for the WP7(swt).
