I suggested for Marty to make adjustments according to what the hardware piece already on COM2 uses, like using the same assigment for his modem since both would be controlled by a hardware switch and they won't be physically connected at the same time. You asked, re wp 5.1 >(2) How to create a "directory alias" (a descriptive name for a >directory). I I found a pristine copy of WP 5.1 manual and copied the following from p. 174: To create a directory alias, first make sure you are in a blank normal editing screen, then follow these steps. 1. They the full name pf the directory to which you want to give an alias (e.g. C:\wp51\work), then press End Field (F9). 2. Type a descri[tive directory alias name. Then press End FIeld (F9). 3. Press Merge Codes (Shift F9) the select End Record (2) The directory alias can be up to 68 characters, including spaces. The first 30 can be displayed in the List Files Long Display screen. * OLX 2.2 * Captain, a Kilngon does NOT play Tetris. * DC Information Exchange, Arlington, VA. I import scans from my HP Scanjet IIc all the time, and in some cases first retouch them with a bitmap editor. One thing you have to watch is that the TIFF format is not standardized, and that TIFs written by some programs will be imported into WP 5.1 without difficulty, whereas ones written by others will not be read. The TIFs directly from my Scanjet are read just fine, but if I retouch them with IPPlus (older Windows bitmap editor), I have to convert the files to PCX format before WP 5.1 will import them; the TIFs written by IPPlus are not recognized by WP 5.1. In fact, the PCX format gives you smaller files than the corresponding TIFs, and is thus in my eyes the bitmap graphics format of choice for importing into WP 5.1 (except, of course, if you can directly convert to WPG format, which programs like PMView for OS/2 can). You may have received an answer by this time already, but in case you haven't, here's my reply... I managed to achieve what you are looking for with (it sounds like) very much the same kind of problem. I made use of 2 styles; one for the sections and one for the subsections. The styles included the following: Style - Section Heading = reset subsection counter to 1 (not zero) Style - Subsection = display counter and then increment counter (seperate codes) I can't explain why your method didn't work. I worked through the same problem about 2 years ago and came up with my _slightly different_ solution which worked for me. Hope this helps... 'Til next time...
