That sounds pretty bad. Did you uninstall WPwin61 before installing WPwin7? Did you install WPwin7 over WPwin6.1 or separately. Is Win95 installed correctly ... (I wouldn't know how to diagnose that :-) If WPwin7 is like other versions it'll be sensitive to that Maybe it's time to call support and/or clean _everything_ from your disks and reinstall from scratch. But, for whatever reason DAD Yeah ;-) DN> doesn't seem as useful. Maybe it's because I do more work with DN> with the Desktop than WP 6.1W. Actually the Desktop in Win95 is a bit limited ... it's not too large, and it is hidden behind stuff when you want it. I think I'm going to add a shortcut to that in the Start menu. It's supposed to be possible. I really like those shortcuts in Win95! DN> As for your translations, etc. Funny, your English seems so DN> impecable I don't even notice a trace of an accent. ;=) Well, I admit my English is above average for a mere foreigner. After all it was my working language -- including a lot of writing -- for four years. As a matter of fact, I often notice spelling errors made by 'native' writers ]:> On the other hand, when I _speak_ english you'll notice a severe accent. It takes some weeks speaking only english to get it more or less right again. But translating specific terms back to the original terms is a rather difficult job. The original translations into Dutch for Windows and WordPerfect items often aren't too good -- and in many cases I wonder whether they bother al all. E.g. the Windows term 'Folder' is translated into 'Map'. Which is technically correct, but exceedingly -- and excessively -- confusing. They should have kept the original term in the Dutch version. 'Folder' is -- by now -- a good Dutch word of English origin. Started on CP/M and worked my way up to a PC and DOS. Amazing how backword some people can be isn't it? In any event on to the reason for this message. I fairly recently decided to upgrade to WordPerfect for Windows (Yes I' finally using Windows) Version 6.1. Purchased a new package (Novell) and tried to install it. Tried is the k word and I have been trying since 05/16/96 without success. Get the following Windows error when using the first (setup) disk. (neve got beyond the first disk): WPINST An Error has occurred in your application If you choose ignore you should save your work in a new file. If you choose Cancel your application will terminate. After I select 'Cancel' another Window error message : Application Error WPINST has caused an illegal instruction in module WPINST.EXE at 0003:424A. CLOSE We have all seen these messages many times but this is the first time I have ever seen them when installing a new program. I have tried the installation with a variety of Autoexec.bat and Config. files. Also tried selection of Custom and Minimum installations without success. After batting my head against the wall for a while I phoned WordPerfect support. Described the problem and they were convinced, as I was, that there was a problem with the first installation disk. They sent me a new of disks (Corel}. Would you believe the new disks didn't change a thing. Still got the same errors on the first installation disk. Soooo I borrowed a set of WordPerfect 6.0 installation disks . Install went normally. No problems at all. Soooo I took my set of WordPerfect 6. disks over to the home of the friend I borrowed 6.0 from and tried to i 6.1 on his machine. No problem. Installed wordperfectly. Gets stranger a stranger doesn't it? My computer is a 486DX4-100. 8MB Ram. DOS 6.22. Windows for Workgroups Ver 3.11. Autoexec and Config files I have tried follow: Autoexec @ECHO OFF PATH C:\;C:\WINDOWS;C:\QDOS;C:\UTILITY\NORTON;C:\BATCH;C:\DOS SET MSINPUT=C:\MSINPUT C:\MSINPUT\MOUSE\MOUSE.EXE /Q SET TEMP=C:\TEMP CLS Config DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE FILES=60 BUFFERS=15 As I mentioned I have tried other Autoexec and Config files. If you want see those let me know. I am considering backing up my hard drive. 540 MB. Formatting. Installin DOS and Windows for Workgroups only. Then try the 6.1 installation. This is a great amount of work. Does anyone have a better idea? I REALLY need your help. --- WILDMAIL!/WC v4.12 * Origin: The Buffalo IBM-PC User Group (1:260/110.0)
