I had found that it was possible to print the 100 point Left Pointing Finger when graphics quality was set to Draft, but not Medium or High. This weekend I increased the memory in my LaserJet 4P from 6MB to 10MB; now it will print in both Draft and Medium, but still not High (600 dpi). I printed the Left Pointing Finger to file using the three graphics qualities, then analyzed the PJL/PCL strings with my editor. The most striking difference is the length of the PCL string generated by WP: Draft 1295 bytes Medium 6108 bytes High 323 bytes I tried analyzing the PCL commands but found several that are not listed in my User's Manual. My conclusion, tho, is that there is something wrong with the PCL string that WP (or the printer driver) is generating for high resolution graphic rendition of this character. --- msged 2.05 * Origin: Silver Bullet - Silver Spring, Md - 301-622-2247 (1:109/417) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 163 WORD PERFECT Ref: BEF00001 Date: 10/07/94 From: MARINA ROOS Time: 2:35 am \/To: PIERRE GIELEN (Read 15 times) Subj: ADRESS BASE? > Can anybody tell me where I can find a description of the format WP 5.1 > uses for mailmerge? Saturday October 01 1994 20:04, Jim Williamson wrote to All: JW> I'm looking for a little more information on WP60/DOS's error JW> #34. A customer tried to open a file from a floppy and received JW> this error. DOS error 34 is in almost all instances caused by a dos-program called SHARE that is usually loaded from your autoexec.bat. SHARE's task is to perform file-locking just like on real networks, this to prevent opening the same file twice and both applications being able to write to it. SHARE is required by a number of peer-to-peer networks like lantastic and netware lite and by some DOS/Windows programs. A side-effect of having the SHARE program loaded is that it will not allow you to switch disks in between. For instance, if you retrieve a file from one disk, and want to save it to another disk, SHARE won't allow this. In fact, the explanation of DOS error 34 in the error list says 'Invalid Disk Change'. In order to overcome this, you either need to run without having SHARE loaded, but that may be impossible if you're using other software that requires SHARE to be running, or you can use the DOS-command 'LABEL' to make sure that both disks have the exact same volume-name. SHARE uses the label-name to determine if the disk was changed. Note that this SHARE-functionality is not related to the 'Disk Change Line' function of your diskdrive which causes DOS to read in the new FAT if the disk was removed from the drive. There is. What you need is the WordPerfect 6.0 Utility disk, available from WordPerfect, and probably also available from the BBS, either complete or in parts (the Dutch WP-bbs has the full contents of the util disk, a .ZIP containing the speller program and a .ZIP containing the PTR program). Using the SPELL.EXE program from this disk (or from the appropriate archive) you can first convert the 6.0 style Supplemental dictionary to a file, which can subsequently be added to the main .LEX file. This will work for all word-based .LEX files. The reason we have to make an extra step (coverting the supplemental dictionary to a file) is because the supplemental dictionary can contain much more now than just additional correct words. Just go into Ctrl+F2, 6 (Edit supplemental dictionary) and a world of options will open for you!
