For >> those of you who thought United States v. Lopez put a spear through >> the heart of the act: This then must mean that EVERYONE including my neighbors may not have guns. How about within the 1000 foot "gun-free zone" circumscribed beyond the "Gov't" operated *public* schools? The law then requires that anyone living within 1000 feet (almost a quarter of a mile) of the school property boundary,....forefit their own firearms. This then must also apply to Hunters, on their way to the "field". They would not be able to "drive by" the school, while transporting a firearm in the trunk of their car. They would be in violation of this 1000 foot "bubble" that guarantees student safety at government operated schools. If it were not so serious (in meaning) I would find it comical. The BATF a powerful Federal agency, has become involved in not only local (city) affairs, but has usurped the rights of the individual citizen. Somewhere in the Consitution does it not say...that Soldiers are not to be stationed in homes? To carry this to a logical (perhaps even legal) conclusion,...IF police, and perhaps BATF agents are allowed to police the public schools,...AND homeschools are deemed schools (with the same regulation regarding BATF backed principles),...THEN it will not be long (logically) before we will indeed be "visited" by soldiers of a sort. (For 'our-own-protection' of course) And yet I must keep in mind that for the past couple of decades, we have been under the "Emergency Powers Act". Which in effect, places the Consitution on the back burner,...and allows those in office to dictate Consitutionality vice the document that was so carefully crafted by founding fathers. It might be an interesting study in Freedom, to compare the U.S. with the rest of the world, and determine which country has lost as much freedom in this century within a ten year period, as we have done; and thought itself to be FREE. She loves to learn at home - lately we have been studying Spanish a lot at her request. It is good to seen teen homeschoolers using the echo. :) My homeschool children are ages 7 and 8. My name's Sean (duh)... I am 25 years old and a product of home schooling! :) I graduated on June 1, 1989. My parents were one of the first families to actively homeschool in the Northwestern Oregon area. I am now a soldier in the US Army, stationed here at Fort Hood, Texas. To all of you parents homeschooling: I think it's great that you all are doing what you're doing. Children these days NEED to be kept away from all the junk that public school offers (I should know-I went to public school for 10 years). Good luck with all the trouble that people try to toss your way; I can say it's worth it. To all you kids being homeschooled: Keep up the good work! You might be teased by other kids at times for being homeschooled, but just ignore them. You're getting a better education and besides, you don't have to ride the bus every day. If any of you want a penpal, please feel free to write to me! I will answer as much mail as I can (in between work and what not). I am setting up a BBS, so hopefully soon, I'll have my own address. :) => Sean Dennis => From the virtual desk of Sean Dennis <= --- timEd 1.01 * Origin: Nighthawk BBS -- Copperas Cove, Texas, USA, Earth... o (1:395/11.86) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 158 HOME SCHOOLING Ref: EER00000Date: 10/21/97 From: MARY GALATI Time: 01:40am \/To: ZAYNAB RICHMOND (Read 0 times) Subj: Homeschooling Re: Homeschooling > I'm still homeschooling - this year both my children are home and it is such > relief not to have to send my daughter to the special ed school anymore. I've started homeschooling my kids this year in Feb. after getting fed up with the schools around here. I'm glad your daughter loves learning at home..I find it is less stressful for the kids. I'm having a bit of trouble getting my kids motivated but once they get going there is no stopping them . My kids are 11, 10 and 1 (never too young to start). Are you using a curriculum?
