MANY teachers have some idea how to deal with ADHD kids, but some are clueless. You really have to watch out for those who don't listen to moms and brush you off with "I know all about ADHD" -- those tend to be the MOST clueless of all. I dealt with all sorts of things - from teachers who wanted to "give him a break" because of his ADHD (not a favor, as you well know) to teachers who didn't understand why it was a mistake to interrupt him for frivolous things if he was working well. After 2 years of homeschooling, he has learned better coping skills. He has matured significantly, and he is on 1/3 the ritalin dose he took when I pulled him out of school. He's in high school now and doing quite well, although it's stressful for him. Judy | AmiQWK 2.9 - FREEWARE | ... "He's dead, Jim. Anyone who owns a firearm had better be including training in their homeschool curriculum. That, BTW, is my husband's responsibility now. When the boys were younger, I did spend some time stressing safety around firearms in the home (ours, where they are locked up away from the kids and others where they may or may not be stored safely). I'm not so sure about allowing government organizations to get involved in that sort of education. I had such training, from an expert in the field, as part of my childhood education and it quite literally saved my life on several occasions. Weapons are out there, rather you like it or not, and _any_ weapon (even a car) is far more dangerous to self and others in the hands of someone untrained in it's proper use than in those of an expert. Well, shut my mouth, I never would have believed that there was ANYTHING on which we could agree! Yearly, we take our kids out to a friends house and discuss firearm saftey. This friend is a certified firearms safety instructor, police officer, etc. He shows them a video from the NRA with some cartoon character, I think its Eddie Eagle. They have learned these rules in a little rap from the video........ If you see a gun..... STOP, don't touch, leave the area and tell an adult. He then takes them out and shows them what a bullet does to a watermelon. A little graphic but they get the point that it isnt like you see in the movies with a little hole and a little blood. I didn't know how this was working until we went to visit an old farm we were thinking of buying. My son went into a room before us but was backing out quickly. He turned around with eyes as big as saucers to tell us that he had seen a gun. My husband and I went to investigate only to find an old BB gun propped against the wall! Just a week or so ago a local school had a 6th grade boy take a loaded handgun to school. When Travis heard about this he asked me, "Didn't his mom & dad tell him what a gun could do?" Never thought we'd see eye to eye on anything, Glen, but here we do. Lisa McIntosh === ?!?
