I use the Young Pianists series if the child is less than age 7 when they start. I use the Basic Piano Library series for children ages 7 to 12. The difference between the two is how much extra reinforcement literature is in the young pianists book - 4 songs for every two in the basic series (Basic Book 1A is actually 2 books for the Young Pianist series, Book A and Book B.) I used to use Thompson but finally decided that I liked Alfred's approach better. I don't know... just thinking out I couldn't chance it, leaving them at home if there was even a remote possibility that they might have to stay in school because I had to keep the job I'm in now. I'd rather they be in school, even if it meant a slower transition to homeschool later. Honestly, tho, I don't expect that the transition will be too tough for them. I expect to "school at home" them for awhile anyway, to ease the transition - I would do that even I started in September. -donna --- GEcho 1.00 * Origin: The Education Station, Poway, CA - Mail Only (1:202/211) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 158 HOME SCHOOLING Ref: DCC00002Date: 08/07/96 From: TOM PATIERNO Time: 06:41pm \/To: GWEN TODD (Read 2 times) Subj: History... Is anybody in here home schooling because your > child had Attention deficit disorder ? Well, yes and no. I have two children diagnosed ADHD and one I suspect is, ut doctors are expensive and it's not to the point of emergency yet. My oldest is also developementally delayed and I feel that the vocation oriented public school program he's in is best for his needs. My third child, age 8, is the one I feel really needs the homeschooling. Her older sister is totally sold on the idea, but Rebecca wavers from day to day in her enthusiasm. The thing is, she ends up doing most of her public school ork at home anyhow! What ended up happening last year was that the poor child would be stuck with as much as 10 hours or so of school a day! She had the 6 hours at school and then up to four hours after school completing the assignments she had trouble sitting through at school...yes, she's on medication. The school just sends her home if she doesn't have it. She is a very bright child who marches to the beat of her own drummer. The prob;lem is that it's not the schools drummer. In fact, sometimes I think the drummer's on some other planet somewhere! ...peace...
