Wednesday May 22 1996 13:18, Joe Chancellor wrote to Gwen Todd: JC> "Know then thyself, Presume not God to scan/ the proper study of Mankind JC> is Man. (Popes Essay on Man) One of the great things about having the moderator as a husband is that he can look over your shoulder and say...."You are taking that to netmail, right?" JC> Humanism in a less slanted definition (in my opinion) than a source JC> related to "sociology" would be the belief in man own inate abilities JC> just as was stated in your definition Why is a sociological definition of "humanism" slanted?? Humanism is what it is. My definition just elaborated on the historical and literary milieu that coincided with it. JC> but the problem "christians" have The Humanistic movement arose out of Christianity. Most Humanists are Christian. JC> with that is that the belief usually leads to the belief that one has JC> the potential in themselves to become either "GOD" or a god. Or at JC> least needs no saviour. This view is compatible with the teachings of Jeshua, called Jesus Christ. For he said (in John 10:34): Jesus answered them. "Is it not written in your Law, 'I have said you are gods'? If he called them 'gods,' to whom the word of God came--and the Scripture cannot be broken--what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world?" The view of man as worthless came from the Apostate Saul, the liar. He perverted the simple truths that Jeshua, the son of David, taught and created a Jew hating religion. He got his revenge for not being made a rabbi. He has caused the persecution of the Jews for two millenia. JC> That is merely a point of arguement at the JC> moment. Only eternity will tell if Jesus was right when he said "I am JC> the way, the truth, and the life. No man cometh to the Father but by JC> me." Although I am thoroughly convinced he was right for fear JC> of getting off subject I relent. That what netmail is for. Jeshua also said, in the same place as above, that only his sheep would hear his voice. No where did he condemn others religions or their believers. In fact, he said of the pagan woman that she had more faith than he had seen amoung "the children of Israel" and he told her had only come for "the lost sheep of Israel." Additionally, Caiaphas, the high priest and prophet of the Temple, said that it "is expedient for us that one man should die for the people, that the whole nation perish not...and not for the nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad. (John 11:50-52)" There is no evidence that non-believers will suffer torment or that Jehovah is the only god....just that he is the only God for the Jews and spiritual Jews. In fact, there is quite a bit of evidence for other gods. Rev. 1:6 say....And hath made us kings and priests unto _God and his Father_. The prophet Micah said, (Micah 4:5) "For all people will walk every one in the name of his god, and we will walk in the name of the LORD our God forever." Psalms 82:1 says, "God standeth in the congregation of the mighty, he judgeth among the gods." JC> My comment is that (again in my opinion) if one were to attempt to tie JC> christianity in with humanism then the proper vehicle to do so, for JC> any christian whose eyes are opened to enough truth, would NEVER be JC> the pope. (small p is intentional) The vatican, the pope, and the JC> catholic system do not now nor have they ever had anything to do with JC> true christianity. The first pope was Constantine who was an ordained JC> babylonian priest until the day he died. That system has paganized JC> christianity beyond recognition so a quote from that source would hold JC> no weight in the eyes of someone seeing enough truth. And who, IN YOUR OPINION, qualifies as "any christian whose eyes are open"? I know many Christians who are humanists. Who are you, what are YOUR qualifications, that you can decide who is and who isn't Christian? What criteria do you use?? JC> A history book, christian or otherwise, that denies that dinosaurs JC> *did* exist is denying the fact that they did out of fear and JC> ignorance. Dinosaurs did exist but that does not affect the JC> infallibility of our source of history. The Book of Job mentions two JC> animal that are, in all probability dinosaurs of some type. Dinosaurs JC> existed in the pre-noahic atmosphere and came over on the ark. (Yes JC> there was room for all dinosaurs known to man) But the post Noahic JC> atmosphere was different and caused the demise of many cold blooded JC> animals like the dinosaurs especially those requiring large amounts of JC> food to survive. Then, if you accept the validity of fossils, why doesn't the total lack of a fossil evidence of a world wide flood bother you?? There should be a layer of sediment to evidence this flood. It should be full of all the creatures that weren't on the ark...including aquatic mammals and fish. For should you dilute the oceans of the world by adding to additional hydorspheres of water, the salinity of the oceans would become to low to support oceanic aquatic life. And the fresh water would become brackish, destroying fresh water life. There would also be evidence of the melting of the polar caps. But recent finds indicate that the polar caps have existed for tens of millenia. The flood took place only about six thousand years ago....more recently even than the end of the last Ice Age ten thousand years ago. JC> There are reasons for all of this but my letter is JC> already too long. I would be JC> glad to discuss any of this with you. I am not an arguementive person. JC> I am not afraid to "face facts". I have found that "facing facts" has JC> only strengthened my grounds for belief in EVERY case thus far. I am more than wiling to dicuss the bible JC> A curriculum to meet your needs would be an idea for one of you to JC> pursue. That is the reason we have A Beka and ACE and all the others JC> because we (Christians) have seen a need that WE had and met that need. JC> For you to do the same would be commendable. You do not have to use the school's curriculum, but it can be nice to use it on certain subjects, if you "CHOSE." The school can not check your curriculum or ask you any questions on how or what you are planning to teach. If there is doubt and evidence to suggest that education is not occuring, then the district may get a truant officer involved. but basically the school is over stepping it's legal bounds. I, personally, agreed to talk to my daughter's princpal when I pulled her out of public school. but I was a involed parent, never missed a PTA meeting, attended all functions, and even came to the school when I wasn't at work to have luch with my daughter. The principal realized I had a sincre desire to see that my child gets an education. I haven't had problems since.
