I am using Word '97. After opening the said Docfile in Word I see that it counted 375 pages. On looking at the print-view, I discovered that after each page, the next page only had one ow two lines at the top and for the rest it is blank. My printer has been configured to use A4-paper, but obviously the page breaks in the docfile are based on slightly longer paper (Folio, I presume). Now is there a way where I can automatically re-arrange them page breaks in order to match the A4-paper? Or do I have to remove all the page breaks manually one by one? (I hope not). And I have come across this problem quite often before in docfiles of other softwarwe. Regards, Charles. I don't understand what you mean by automated. Cross referencing, by its very nature can reference anything to anything. How would you propose to automate a random, patternless process? The document is poorly formatted, if it has a hard page break for every page. I offer two suggestions. First, remove all hard page breaks and let Word do the pagination. Hard page breaks would then be inserted only where necessary for new chapters, etc. Second, if you can tolerate it, you might try changing the top or bottom margin on all the pages to allow 1-2 extra lines of printing. One way you could do this is to use "find and replace" Edit Replace Special Manual page break Tab down to "Replace with" Special Paragraph mark Replace all This will replace all your manual page breaks with a paragraph mark in one go. If you want to replace them one by one use the command "replace" instead of replace all. On a 375 page document "replace all" will take 10 seconds, and repace will take 3 hours!!! :-) --- * PW * --- InterEcho 1.19 * Origin: SBBS. Annoying page breaks are a fact of life in the land of electronic media. The way I deal with them is to use the Replace feature. Tell your word processor to find the page breaks. If you are not sure what code it is, you can highlight a page break, copy it, open the Find/Replace option, then paste the page break into the Find field. Be sure there is nothing in the Replace With field. Then you can use the Replace All option to replace all page breaks with nothing, effectively deleting all the page breaks at once. You are then free to adjust margins, paper types, etc and allow automatic re-pagination if you want.
