I have placed several Drop-down form fields pn a page and wish to create a macro which will read the 'value' in each field and compare it with the selected value in other drop-down fields. However, when I tried assigning a variable value to the selected option in a drop-down form field, the value stored was not that of the actual text in the field, but the fact that there was a field at that bookmark location. Can someone give me some suggestions as to how I can make a macro read the value in a field, rather than the fact that the field exists? I will be most appreciative of any assistance, Regards, James --- * Origin: Melbourne PC User Group BBS (3:632/309) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 156 MS WORD Ref: D5M00003 Date: 05/13/96 From: STUART BRIDGES Time: 09:25am \/To: JOHN FELTHAM (Read 7 times) Subj: WORD6 AND WORKS I'm also looking for a conversion filter for Works V3.0 to Word 6, rather than convert down within one program and back up in other. I tried to use a PowerPoint DB> object and this seems to work. I manually place it, but have DB> not been able to get it to work as a Autotext entry ... how DB> do you do that? Do I have to use a WordArt object to use the DB> Autotext?? If the entry is pure text, I'd use WordArt for two reasons: 1) The symbiosis between WordArt and Word is likely to be _slightly_ stronger than between PowerPoint & Word. Both will use OLE, but it is likely that the set of behaviours and characteristics of the object interaction (how's that for techo talk?) will be richer in the former case. Hence autotext may work with WordArt (haven't tried it myself - from memory) but not with PowerPoint. 2) The object overhead of WordArt object should be much smaller. Remember with OLE, you are embedding a file of the corresponding type. (if you are using embedding, then you need to start up the other application). Since WordArt is an applet, it's overheads, both object size and processing wise are likely to be lower. Basically, if you _can_ do what you want in WordArt, my advice is so do it.
