CD> One of the guys running for governor here wants to do away with CD> the ad valorum tag tax. I'd go for that! I don't say that the ad valorem (value added) tax in GA is fair or unfair; I *do* say that if it were removed you would experience a very brief respite as the greatest part of this tax goes to the County or City government. If it were to be taken away, the property taxes would rise dramatically. it takes X amount of dollars to run a government and that amount will come from somewhere. If the ad valorem tax on auto registrations were done away with, your propery tax would rise dramatically or if you rent, your rent would go up accordingly as the landlord would be faced with an increased tax bill. For 7 years the operation of the county I live in was financed *totally* by the taxes collected on auto registrations; most of it came from the soldiers that live in the county but on Ft. Benning. Anyway, as your antique or classic gets older, the tax burden lessens; the tax on our pickup was $2.48 last year, making the cost of registration $22.48 total. --- GEcho 1.00 * Origin: The Gawga Mail! --Messages only-- 706-989-0087 (1:18/177) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 155 OLD CARS Ref: FA400053 Date: 05/31/98 From: CHRIS DAVIS Time: 07:10pm \/To: ROY WITT (Read 0 times) Subj: Re: Corvettes RW> Look around you. But the basic lines are still there from 68. And some 68s had smog control on them. Not like the 80s, no. I didn't believe it until I saw it in Corvette Central's catalog. 74s and 75s look a lot alike. Actually, I wouldn't want a 74 cuz they had bad electrical problems from what I hear. And the 73s only had a chrome bumper in the back, I'd rather have a 72 or back, if I had my choice. I hope GA does do away with the emissions crap, but I doubt they will. Beauracracy in action, I'm afraid. RW> 82-83's are priced 3 to 4 grand higher than an 81. Why is that? Man, there's no such thing as an 83 vette! They went from the 82s to the 84 models. They may have released the 84 early in 83, but it was still called an 84 model. A 1983 Corvette simply does not exist. 81 and 82 engines are crap n my book. 84s are too. in 81 you had a computerized carb. That's real smart. n 82 and 84 it was even worse with that "cross fire fuel injection". Those engines are just plain sorry. Constantly needing to be tuned. If you can get them tuned right, they will run good. I had a chance to buy an 84 a few years ago, but didn't cuz of its engine. I'm much happier with my 80. The 82 are newer than the 80s, that makes them worth a little more. and some 82s were collector editions. --- Join League 94 * Origin: Rangers of Midnight BBS 770-944-8870 Mableton, GA. (1:133/8870)
