EH> Oh, I'm still in Doghouse, just lettin it rock along. I've been here EH> for dogs years too! I just tend to keep quiet where all these EH> 'experts' are concerned, but the Marvel Mystery oil into the air intake EH> of the wiper motor was DEAD ON! I didn't have any Marvel Mystery Oil. Where do I get it? I tried the automatic transmission fluid instead. Putting some of that in the intake and then working the wipers by hand, then putting more fluid in, working them by hand again, then after a few more times of this they were off and running on their own. After more fluid and a good blast of water on the windshield they were running full speed! Now to see if they operate for any length of time. -Ray --- Maximus/2 3.01 * Origin: Cool Family BBS (1:138/228) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 155 OLD CARS Ref: FA100046 Date: 05/20/98 From: TAMI COOL Time: 10:01am \/To: ROY J. TELLASON (Read 0 times) Subj: Howdy Hi! RJT> I guess it depends on whether you're going to show it or not... RJT> I ran into this sort of thing all the time, when I RJT> was selling batteries. People had cars that were RJT> otherwise "all original" and they'd lose points if RJT> something weren't exactly right, or so I was told. RJT> To my view, *that* was a PITA... It's true. In the Vintage Chevrolet Club our cars are judged on a points system. Everything is looked at, including ROAD GRIME! My father once had a 46 chev, our first chevy! We restored it and had it judged and it got a silver, which is a second place. Funny, we were the only car in the class! I always had such fun poking at him about that. I had my 54 judged the first year I restored it originally. It was not an official judging, our club was hosting the regional meet and the judges wanted to practice. We did fairly well then, I think I had enough points for a silver. But now, with the changes to the electrical system, it would never fly :) It's okay in my book tho, I enjoy having it, Ray LOVES having it, and it's just all in good fun! There has been talk (over and over) about letting modified cars into a class of their own. This came up when the '60's muscle cars started gaining popularity. The Club did not saction this, so at our meets, we had an "unofficial" semi-modified and modified judging class. They did not get certificates, but we did give some nice plaques. - Tami --- Maximus/2 3.01 * Origin: Cool Family BBS (1:138/228) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 155 OLD CARS Ref: FA100047 Date: 05/20/98 From: ELVIS HARGROVE Time: 03:39pm \/To: CRAIG HEALY (Read 0 times) Subj: Howdy Hi! -> those clubs. This conference is carried on the FIDO-NET backbone and is moderated by Gerry Calhoun at 1:2004/200. These rules will be subject to change if a change seems needed or is requested. Enforcement of the rules will be handled in the echo and/or via net-mail. Repeated violations of the rules may be considered grounds for the offending node to have its link to this conference cut. Rule #1: Please try to keep your language suitable to all ages. Remember this message base is open to all age groups, and some may take offense to foul language. Rule #2: The topic here is OLD CARS. What makes a car an old car? For the purpose of this echo, a pre 1975 car in general is qualifed to be considered an OLD CAR. But this is a very flexible rule as limited production cars of newer vintage may be considered on topic. If in doubt, ask the Moderator. Rule #3: No unsolicited commerical sales announcements please. This echo is carried by sysops who foot the bills out of their own pockets for the most part. If sommebody asks for a source of a CAR-RELATED item, feel free to offer advice on where to look for something, or to mention that you have what they are looking for. If you have something which you feel may be of interest to somebody here and are NOT in the business of selling that item and it is OLD CAR-related, you may post about it here. Rule #4: No unsolicited BBS ads here. If you know of a system which has a program or file that somebody has asked about, feel free to post the name, phone number and location of the system, but no messages saying "Call this system now" type of thing. Rule #5: Keep the message-quoting to a minimum, please. Most BBS's are run out of the pockets of private sysops, and nobody wants to pay for (or see) a 20-line message quoted in full to have somebody else say "I Agree". Rule #6: Keep the personal attacks to a minimum, please. Everybody has seen messages posted by people who strike you as complete fools, but you do not have to call a person names in order to give an answer or correct him/her on a point. Hold the flames to a mimimum and try to keep this a fun place. These are all the rules for now. If any other points come up in the future, they will be addressed and added to this list if necessary. If there are any questions or comments about these rules, address them to me, Gerry Calhoun, via net-mail ONLY at 1:2004/200. --- * Origin: PETS R US! 805-946-8345 - Lancaster, CA (1:2004/200) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 155 OLD CARS Ref: FA100052 Date: 05/21/98 From: CHRIS DAVIS Time: 08:58pm \/To: RAYMOND COOL (Read 0 times) Subj: Re: Howdy Hi! Feed them a dose of that stuff about once a week for a while and they'll get a lot better. The vane that goes back and forth has an edge seal that gets dried out and the vacuum leaks past it. The oil softens the seal and makes it SEAL and the motor has pretty fair power. I'd still haunt the junkyards for an electric motor about the same size, etc. ^..^ --- FidoPCB v1.5 beta-'j' * Origin: BOO!
