It's a pretty broad name for the 5 years? Heck, that's not even broken in! I've been driving a 1980 Ford F-150 for 2 1/2 years now (first and only vehicle I've ever had that I could call my own)... still runs strong. Only left me stranded twice, and the first time was because of the way my stepdad installed the u-joints (he managed to crack the slip yoke on the tranny). Second time was because the ignition module went out... $20 later and I was back on the road both times. --- Telegard v3.09.g1/mL * Origin: tos * 972-818-0339 - dallas texas (1:124/6630) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 155 OLD CARS Ref: F1500000 Date: 01/03/98 From: GENE COOK Time: 11:50pm \/To: NANCY WOOD (Read 0 times) Subj: Re: Datsum B-210 Flywheel -=> Quoting Nancy Wood to Gene Cook <=- NW> @MSGID: 1:387/510@Fidonet.org 01170e16 > Looking for a flywheel from this car. Now there's an extra one in the cab, pulled out of an Escort we had that went off to get junked. Actually, I'd better check.. someone broke in to it today and took everything that wasn't attached (and some that WAS.. amps and stereo come to mind), they probably took the ENGINE while I wasn't looking :/ --- Telegard v3.09.g1/mL * Origin: tos * 972-818-0339 - dallas texas (1:124/6630) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 155 OLD CARS Ref: F1A00000 Date: 01/03/98 From: DAY BROWN Time: 05:42pm \/To: NIKKO KVASNICKA (Read 0 times) Subj: Old Cars On 01-02-98 Nikko Kvasnicka wrote to Gerry Calhoun... NK> By the way, what would be considered Old Cars in this echo??? Let me suggest anything up to 1973, when a number anti-pollution systems were added to vehicles sold in the American market. Those systems added a lot of complexity to the wiring diagram. The components in them age at different rates. The design of the sytems themselves varied widely even within a given model year of a given model, and that, as we say with the computer software, not always documented. The upshot is that there is a considerable likelihood that later model vehicles, no matter how diligent the owner, may not perform as desired because he may not be able to get the correct sensors, lacks the correct diagnostic tools, or such tools were not right in the first place because the documentation, if it exists, was not correct. With earlier models, the contact point ignition systems were all well understood, and understandable by mechanics. Likewise, the carburettors were often complex, but still understandable by the experienced technician. Same goes for standard transmissions, differentials, drum brakes, suspension, etc.. the restorer can be totally confident that the vehicle will perform as needed. Automatic trannys OTOH, have so many hidden galleys and hydraulic valves that no technician can afford to spend the time to examine them all, and still get more than one rebuilt a year; he must put his faith in the immersion chemicals to clean the castings to the point where they will *likely* be servicable. Of course, later models can be put on the road with aftermarket ignition, emmission and fuel systems that may function, but of course the vehicle won't be, therefore, in 'showroom' condition. ___ * OFFLINE 1.58 * BEER: its not just for breakfast anymore! --- Maximus 3.01 * Origin: * After F/X * Rochester N.Y. 716-359-1662 (1:2613/415) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 155 OLD CARS Ref: F1A00001 Date: 01/05/98 From: TIM KRIEG Time: 09:12pm \/To: ESFJ (Read 0 times) Subj: ajf ajfk ajsfk --- Maximus 3.01 * Origin: The Swiss Bull Maximus System (1:11/600)
