Let's see I have a 73 SuperB that I purchased about 6 months ago, and to the best of my knowledge everything is still stock on it. But that's all about to change. A friend of mine told me about some adaptors that allow you to place Chevy Wheels on a VW. So as soon as I can find some I'm gonna put those on, raise it up about another 4 inches higher than what the Chevy Wheels raise is ( I figure on it being 6 inches higher after I get finished with it. NAPA, CarQuest, Autozone, AC/Delco, no luck. These units were only made two years, 62 and 63. With the 65 and ups being the more popular we old four luggers get forgotten. Ignore the oil pump drive shaft slot. Bring #1 up on compression, drop the dist. in the hole with the rotor pointed at the proper place in relation to #1 on the cap. At this point, the dist. will be about 1/4 inch above the normally seated position. Have a friend 'bump' the starter, and as the engine turns over, the oil pump drive shaft and dist. shaft drive 'lining up' will take care of itself. Put the hold bracket and bolt in place, then proceed with the rest of the assembly. 0=====C Tom ... Landon: IF problem occurs when throttle is mashed, (engine bogs) it's possibly caused by the vacuum mixture needles sticking. Excuse my criptic approach, I'm trying to remember 25yrs back. The rochester quadrijet has 2 vacuum operated needles between the bores, they get grungy from the pcv dumpping into the intake. If this is the case 1/2 oz. of lacquer thinner usually cures it. After that mash the throttle often! Question.....how bad is the leak? I have used an old mechanics trick that got me 35,000 miles farther before doing the dirty duty.....I added 4 ounces of brake fluid to a hot transmission, drove it for a few hours, then let the car sit over night. It really slowed the leak. I had to add a quart every month afterwards. The brake fluid swells the seals somewhat, helping them seal better for a while. Same principle the additives use, only instead of paying $4.95 for the treatment, it was 25 cents for part of a 99 cent bottle of brake fluid.... Tom ...
