Cool. I own a '74 Standard Beetle. Got it real cheap 3 years ago. I got the engine remanufactured by a VW racer friend of mine....bone stock. But, soon enough, I installed Weber 34ICTs, a Pertronix ignition, VW 1.25:1 rocker arms and headers. Boy that bug rocks for the bolt-on stuff I put on it. Buddies of mine said,"Yeah, but you're gonna have problems when it gets cold." COLD? In Pensacola , Florida? Humph! But, when it DID get into the 20s, that baby cranks just fine. I love those Webers! The only sweat is that I'm gonna get rid of my beloved bug. I'm getting a brand new car with an inheritance. I'm waiting on the money now, so, every time I drive it, I treat it like it is the last time (as it well may be). But I must sell it. I can't have a money pit laying around. I hope I'll get over it. If not, I'll just have to GET A 1964 bug.....YEAH!....and do a resto-custom!!!....TO THE WALL!!!....YEAH! Sorry. Kinda lost control. Oh well. I can truly say that from all of the cars I've owned (including a badass custom '65 Mustang), that bug is truly the coolest car ever. On my 64 Chevy Van the turn signal switch was broken and the cost of replacement was beyond what I had budgeted at the time. As the van came with dual filament bulbs I left those in place for use as brake/tail lights. I added a pair of amber lights below the existing red lights and connected them to the turn signal flasher by means of a single pole double throw switch. Now I have red tail/brake lights and amber turn signals. I'm having a problem with my Chevy 350. If I'm out on the road and floor the gas pedal the engine coughs, sputters, and backfires. But in the driveway with the brake applied and the gas pedal on the floor it doesn't do this. It has a rebuilt Q-jet carb and just about everything is stock, and I'm using 92 octane unleaded gas. Turn signal switches are fairly complex EH>and there's no immediately SIMPLE way of overcoming this. Hello Elvis, Many of the autos from the 50's 60's and 70's that had a single tail light used a dual filament bulb for all three (tail-brake-and signal light) functions. I understand what your saying about the complexity but it is possible to wire it for from using only a dual filament bulb. Obviously my wiring is not set up for using those applied functions. My manual is no help for wiring diagrams for good explanations. For now I will use a separate light for the directionals until I can determine the proper method of wiring a dual filament to carry the three functions. EH>The most obvious way is to provide a separate single filament bulb EH>snuggled into the lamp-housing and connected only to the turn signal EH>circuit.
