How fast > is it idling? That gasket has been replaced, and I think the valves are centered. I don't know exactly how fast it idles (Temporarily removed the tach), but I'd guess it's somewhere around 2000 to 2500 rpm. I was thinking about the venturi area. That was originally factory sealed, but a friend of ours (who we've lost contact with) drilled the cover open & adjusted that once. It always ran great until recently. I can't find any literature on that particualr carb, so all my adjustments are mostly guesswork and estimating based on other carbs. -Troy --- * Origin: Gilligan's Island BBS, Carver MN, 612-368-3897 (1:282/1051) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 155 OLD CARS Ref: DEL00010 Date: 10/14/96 From: TROY SONKSEN Time: 08:42pm \/To: SEAN DUNBAR (Read 2 times) Subj: Re: not again > Maybe the choke is sticking? That's all I can think of... > why on earth would > you ever put a 2 bbl on a 350 though?? I thought about that, too (the choke), but during the first rebuild I noticed the choke was gone! ?? It had been replaced with a manual choke, rather than the original electric one. This is on a dirt track stock car. I'd rather run a trusty holly 4bbl, but the rules restricted us to a 2bbl original equipment. Acording to next years rulebook we can run holly 2bbl now, so I'm thinking of just buying one & trashing this one... -Troy --- * Origin: Gilligan's Island BBS, Carver MN, 612-368-3897 (1:282/1051) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 155 OLD CARS Ref: DEL00011 Date: 10/14/96 From: JOHN PUMMILL Time: 12:51pm \/To: MIKE EYRE (Read 2 times) Subj: Chevy vs dodge ME> BB> Really? Now then.. if I could just remember what the Not in all cases. Pre-1975 (pre-cat converter years) an air pump obviously has nothing to do with helping heat up the cat. conv. Its primary purpose is to burn up any remaining fuel in the exhaust and thereby reduce NOx emmisions. More ubi; late 70's mopars "air injection" went into the back of the heads. > frag we're talking about this for.. ?? Backfire? Was that > it? Something about removing the Cat to cure a backfire? May do If its got an airpump and its backfiring (when decelerating), one of the check valves may be faulty, or one of the tubes may have a loose fitting past the check valve, or cracked air tube pipe (past the check valve). | AmiQWK 2.7 - S/N 0261 | ... NH> Heres some AMC trivia for you. In `60s, until `68, AMC was using a NH> version of Fords Cruise-O-Matic in their luxury and performance models. NH> Its an ok trany but nothing great for hot-rodding. In `69 they switched NH> over to the Chrysler 727. If only they had switched in `68. If I remember correctly, for most of the sixties, only Rambler and Cadillac used a dual master cylinder for the brakes for each model of their cars. Everyone else still used single master cylinders. My first car was a 64 Rambler Classic, Model 660, which I believe was only one step below their top of the line Ambassador (sp?). The transmission was a Borg Warner "Flash-O-Matic" mated to a 287 cu in V-8 made by Chevrolet. A large two-barrel Holley carb completed the package. While it wasn't a performance car, when I was a teenager in the mid to late seventies, I did manage to surprise a number of people with larger engines. But that was in my younger and dumber days, and hopefully I drive a bit smarter now. However, I do wish I still had that Rambler.
