I have no other explanation for you Gerry.. Thats just what happened. But if it makes everybody feel better, I always get "weird" problems. Nothing ever goes wrong in the normal sense, theres always some twist to things that make the job interesting. =) Anyhoo, the car in question is a 1973 Nova, 350, auto, 3.08rear. (And it was still using the stock 2GC at the time), and single exhaust. (This was many years ago) | AmiQWK 2.7 - S/N 0261 | ... The 2.2l has not blown. It will go easily 100k or more. The 2.6l is known for blowing the head gastket. The only reason I had to overhaul the engine was that my husband set the timing to far ahead and burned a hole through the #2 piston. I would drive a 2.2l over any other 4 cylinder put out by Chrysler. --- MsgToss 2.0c (r) * Origin: The Proteus BBS - V.34+\8CDS\OS2v3 - 1.515.432.1965 (1:290/118) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 155 OLD CARS Ref: DEL00002 Date: 10/14/96 From: LORI HARVEY Time: 10:00pm \/To: MIKE EYRE (Read 2 times) Subj: Re: Chevy vs dodge Hate to tell you this......The oil fill cap was NOT on the valve cover. It was tucked in behind the A/C Compressor and the oil dip stick was tucked in behind the alternator. I read the owner's manual for what it was worth. The manual was so generic, (for all Olds) that I couldn't figure out what applied to me and what didn't. Like I said, I'm glad I drive Mopars, the manuals are concise and everything is easy to find. And yes, I can find the valve covers, my husbands 400 and the 360 in my Dodge Magnum had the oil fill cap on the valve covers. I inherited my great-grandmothers Olds, I traded it off in a matter of 3 weeks for my mini-van with a 2.2l with 170k, that is still running strong and probably will continue to do so for another 80k. --- MsgToss 2.0c (r) * Origin: The Proteus BBS - V.34+\8CDS\OS2v3 - 1.515.432.1965 (1:290/118) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 155 OLD CARS Ref: DEL00003 Date: 10/14/96 From: LORI HARVEY Time: 10:02pm \/To: MIKE EYRE (Read 2 times) Subj: Re: Chevy vs dodge $500 for a head job? When I was looking at Yup, again I've had Excelent luck with my 2.6 rear wheel/4x4. not with frontwheel drive engines. I have Never let it get hot and have guages attached to it instead of those darn idiot lights.. heats the killer on the 2.6's keep em cool/COLD and they'll run forever.. my personal choice is the 2.5 intercooled turbo out of a daytona, I just slapped one in a friends 47? Morris Minor(looks like a baby 39 ford) verses the V-6 chevy he had in there and he's amazed at how much different it run's...course I had to gut his front end completely and put in the complete works It's not too pretty yet but run-able. I was going to put in my spare 2.6 turbo but couldn't figure how to hook up the chevy trans since I didn't have a spare to give him..and the radiator was sorta small to be adding the 2.6 , big enough for the 2.5 but not for the 2.6. but as for Front wheel drive I'd go your route a 2.5 or 2.2 in those types of vehicles..I've seen people blow headgaskets on the 2.6 frontwheel drive and they're NOT abusing them. weird that I run my 4x4 2.6 into the dirt and never have a problem.. just my luck on the draw of 2.6's I guess. Now I'm in the process of stretching a Dodge D-50 mini 40inches to slide a smallblock v8 in place behind the cab |) the frames already cut and the replacement pieces are in place now all I have to do is take it down and get the frame mig welded and aligned.. It should go pretty good after it's all together.. gonna try and be ready for the woodward cruise next year..
