Mini-van #7 is sitting in my driveway. It has a 2.2l, with 68k on the overhaul that we did 2.5 yrs. ago. My brother-in-law, a mechanic, told me to stear clear of the 2.6l because of the problems with them. The main problem with the 2.6l is that they blow their head gaskets very easy. I had a friend who had a Aries and a Caravelle with a 2.6l, the head gaskets blew in both cars shortly after he got them. I would choose a 2.2l or 2.5l over a 2.6l anyday. When I was looking at mini-vans, I would pop the hood, if it had a 2.6l, I closed the hood and left it sit. I wouldn't even listen to it run. I have talked to other people that have had those. My chiropracter, his engine blew in his mini-van 3 times in one year because it was a 2.6l. I'm trying to change his mind about 4 cylinder engines. He is not happy at this point. Sorry, the 2.6l is not, in my opinion a engine worth having. --- MsgToss 2.0c (r) * Origin: The Proteus BBS - V.34+\8CDS\OS2v3 - 1.515.432.1965 (1:290/118) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 155 OLD CARS Ref: DEG00013 Date: 10/11/96 From: LORI HARVEY Time: 07:45pm \/To: BILL BOOGAART (Read 2 times) Subj: Re: Chevy vs dodge Another vote for the 2.2l engine. The other day I was driving to work, push the clutch in, and I hear a loud BANG, the pedal goes limp. The clutch is band new (2 weeks old) 1st thought was fingers collapsed or something similar. I had to fisish my drive to work in 1st. well anyways after I get to work, I start looking, I thought maybe the adjuster worked loose and fell off? nope, it was all there, but the 'equliser bar' the big metal funny shape that is connected to the rod coming out of the Fire wall attaches to and piviots on the frame and engine. Some how this bar came loose from the engine side, everyone I asked said, yup you broke an Engine mount, but if it was broke, wouldn't sticking a jack under the enging and lifting seperate the enging from the frame? this doesn't happen. it lifts the frame up as well. I finally got the clutch back togather again by removing the bolt in the mount, jacking up the engine, placing the bar in the bushing and have someone gently drop the motor back in place while I guided the bar into place. Does anybody know how this could have happened? Is it going to be a recurring problem? or is it a marval mystry! BTW the clutch is in a 1966 Mustang, 289, 4 speed. any answers or theories? Bryan ... Heres some AMC trivia for you. In `60s, until `68, AMC was using a version of Fords Cruise-O-Matic in their luxury and performance models. Its an ok trany but nothing great for hot-rodding. In `69 they switched over to the Chrysler 727. If only they had switched in `68. Later... Noel -- SPEED 2.00 [NR]: It's more than a reader.
