I guess I have seen him in here for the past 5 - 6 YEARS or so. He and Bill Boogart have been in so long, that if THEY wanted to make a moderator call for me, I'd let them. They are about the only ones I'd let do that, if anybody else would try they would get some smoking netmail (along with their uplinks). From what I have seen in several other echos, Elvis and I pretty much see eye to eye on how an echo should be handled and if I ever had the need to give up this echo, I would first offer it to him. Very few people merit such regard in my book. Well, according to him, the carb is in good shape, so I can't say much... he no longer has that truck, so I can't look at it for myself, either :-/ the only carb problems I have is the choke lets it run way too rich (it'll stall if you push the gas down more than 1/3 of the way down with the choke on), and one of the screws to set the choke is seized up :-/ I haven't really bothered to fix it, since once the engine warms up, it runs great. --- Telegard v3.02/mL * Origin: The Other Side * (915) 590-3817 * El Paso, TX, USA (1:381/95) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 155 OLD CARS Ref: DDN00013 Date: 09/18/96 From: SEAN DUNBAR Time: 07:03pm \/To: KEN THOMPSON (Read 4 times) Subj: Re: Tail pipe emmisions KT> If the car has 150,000 miles, well, it's time for the overhaul! Not necessarily. My dad's place (no, I'm not a kid, before you get the wrong idea :) ) had a 1977 Ford Econoline cargo van with the 351 Windsor, and they put around 400,000 miles on the van. It was still running good, didn't burn oil (the oil level would barely go down between 2500 mile oil changes), but the body looked like swiss cheese from the rust when they got rid of it. All it needed engine wise when we sold it was a new carburator (the original one caused it to flood whenever it was parked) --- Telegard v3.02/mL * Origin: The Other Side * (915) 590-3817 * El Paso, TX, USA (1:381/95) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 155 OLD CARS Ref: DDP00000 Date: 09/14/96 From: MICHAEL JONES Time: 11:10am \/To: TERRY DURFEE (Read 4 times) Subj: 305/350 -> MJ> > I'm now driving an '81 Olds 88 with a 5.7 diesel that gets MJ> > up -> to 27 -> MJ> > mpg, until I get the pickup's new engine installed. I came across an article in Mopar Action, June 1991......Before you get your car insured, have it formally appraised. Numbers will be looked at, but if it doesn't have the stock engine in it, it won't be worth as much, but the body itself will be a valuable thing in itself.
