RD> Nope, not a valid code. Is a B or a C. Welp while the coil was off being replace I looked for a number, no such luck :( I know that it's a 289 with some performance.. I guess that'll work. RD> Should have kept those heads... The best heads for a SBF are the RD> Boss and failing that, the '67 stock 289. If you can't get those RD> dig up a pair of heads from 66 or earlier.. HP coded ones would RD> be nice. HP ones will have screw in rocker studs and cast in RD> valve seat bosses. If all else fails get the 302 ones shaved and RD> they end up better than a 289 head (more flow) WEll the other heads were shot, cost of repair out weighs cost of replacement :( RD> Usually alot of surprising things are left original. A RD> well prepped 289 will blow the arse off most of these kids with RD> 5.0 mustangs. True... I'm kinda glad I can say I have an orignal 289 :) yea, I'm sure a 289 can beat up on a 302... esp when the 289 is near straight exaust and a 302 has got cats and usually less performance mufflers RD> It's off a Full sized ford from 1979, it's a 4609 Holley and RD> *gasp* It's a carb ;> Anything else you have to dig up yourself ;> Try asking around what cfm a 4609 holley is. The car is a 1967 Pontiac Tempest. The body is extremely sound, the interior is progressing and I just finished installing the driveline. I put a 283 in the car with a Borg Warner 4 speed. (T-10 I think?) and put a Ford 9" with a Detroit locker, 380 gear set and strange engineering axles. Including Chrome parts on the motor it ended up over $3000 dollars in work. I now have a driveable car that looks OK but is not completed. The problem is Bodywork. The body is still very sound, rust free on the panels and little rust (undercoating just begginning to peel in a few areas) beneath the car. I want to repaint the car black, metallic or pearl. It now has an enamel black over the original coat of Blue metallic. The front left fender has a problem, it has a deep gouge that was filled with Bondo and is now cracking slightly. The fender itself is also bent slightly out of shape. The rear wheel wells were rebuilt by someone with fiberglass and are slightly different on one side than the other (see more wheel, 1/4 inch or so on the left side.) The window trim is warped and no longer fits perfectly and the rear doesn't have enough clips left to secure it properly (I have replacement clips and trim) The drivers door has a slight rust spot under the paint in the very corner of the door. The hood has one pock in it, very small and almost unnoticable unless the light is right. I took this car to an auto restoration place locally and was told that the repairs would run very close to 10,000 dollars (Thats RIGHT! and if you want to prove it I have his phone number, little valley restorations Cassidy BC Canada) to correct the slight problems in the car and give it a proper paint job. My bowels slightly shaken I worked out that the most I could afford was close to 1500 dollars, possibly 2000 at the most for paint work. Since a parts matching car was only worth 6600 american I definitly wasn't interested in that route. So I looked for someone else to do it locally. I found one other fellow, a retired bodyman, who said he would do it for 1500. But when I asked he was saying things like pop riviting the clips for the rear window trim on and said he would pick out the paint for me. I definitly didn't like the idea of pop rivited bodywork, and was looking forward to browsing some chips for a paint that appealed to me. Now I am led to wonder, is it unreasonable to expect my fairly slight bodywork and a good quality paintjob (ie, strip and paint or at least one that doesn't leave blue showing all over the place) for 1500, 2000 dollars? Am I being unreasonable or should I just keep looking for a better place? I am not interested in a Maaco special but I am getting a little disenchanted with the whole deal here! Raben Taggen REPAINT! But from what I hear BW>my home state of PA and here in OK it's like that... It varies state to state, and also on how it's registered. Here in New Jersey if it's registered with QQ (historic) plates it's not subject to periodic inspection, that means it has to be 25 years old and you are supposed to stay within the limits of such a registration as for use, like parades and display, and mileage, under 3000 a year. Unsafe statutes still apply, original lights required and smoke could still be ticketed, though if slight probably not. Otherwise it gets normal plates and is subject to all the applicable HC and CO tests, all inspection requirements, and no smoke allowed. --- RyPacker v2.5a * Origin: The Right Place V.34+ DS RyBBS Ft.Lee,NJ 201-947-8231 1:2604/539)
