Just to save myself any future problems in case the tag was ever lost I took an ingraver and etched what was on the tag onto the side of the carb. --- QuickBBS 2.81 GoldBase (Zeta-2.0) * Origin: The Overworked Dragon BBS (503)256-8451 PDX (1:105/56) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 155 OLD CARS Ref: DC^00007 Date: 08/30/96 From: LANDON ROBINSON Time: 07:14am \/To: ALEXANDER BILAN (Read 3 times) Subj: engines If you are just going to use the car as a daily driver the 307/327/350 will do fine, stay away from the 305 small block, it had problems with the heads. They had weird designs and had flow problems. If you plan on using the car to blow people's doors off go with a 396 or 427 big block. --- QuickBBS 2.81 GoldBase (Zeta-2.0) * Origin: The Overworked Dragon BBS (503)256-8451 PDX (1:105/56) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 155 OLD CARS Ref: DC^00008 Date: 08/30/96 From: LANDON ROBINSON Time: 07:24am \/To: MIKE MUELLER (Read 3 times) Subj: E-Check Here in Oregon we have what is called DEQ (Dept. of Environmental Quality) that has emmisions testing stations for automobiles. With Ponitac engines, as compared to a renamed Chevelle (Chevy engined?). As I recall (and could be mistaken) some of the Ponitacs up there were sold with Chevy engines (I seem to recall a Firebird that ran the Trans-AM series in '69 with a Chevy 302, under title of being a Canadian Pontiac). I was also wondering if they had the OHC-6 or the Chevy six. Personally, if I'm hunting down a car, I couldn;t care less if it was a siamesed block or not. > What about the infamous 409? I don't care >what they say, Just because they only have 1 size does NOT mean pontiac >only has smallblocks. There has to be a better way of defining these >motors. Displacement is out of the question as a deciding factor. Theres got to be some sort of physical material/construction differences to give a definition. How about parts interchangeability? All small block chevies for instance can swap parts, albeit some would be an extremely bad combination, but a cam for a 305 fits a 307 fits a 350 fits a sb400. How do pontiac and olds motors fair in this department? Any components that would work only in a series of blocks? (Sorta the Chrysler LA, RB blocks) | AmiQWK 2.7 - S/N 0261 | ... I was also wondering if > they had the OHC-6 or the Chevy six. A Beaumant is basically, from the frame, and cowl back a Chevelle. It has "Pontiac" front fenders, hood, and type typical Pontiac split grille. They look cool, mostly becuase they look just different enough from a chevelle to be unique. Engines here in Canada could be anything. =) Chevy, Pontiac, Olds, Buick- which applies to just about any pre-1976 GM product. We've also got the Pontiac Acadian (Nova), similar in nature to the Beaumant in that its underpinnings and cowl back is standard X-body stuff, with the pontiac grille, but in this case, the same fenders and hood. And then theres the Buick Apollo, which could have anything from a Chevy I6, Pontiac 350, Chevy 350, and buick 350 in it. As far as I am aware (I;ve been trying to find information on this, since it looks like an intriguing swap for the regular I6) the OHC-6 was only available in 68 or 69 (can't remember correctly at the moment) and was apparently a high priced option. It could be had in (apparently) in the Pontiac line up, including the Firebirds and Tempest series. And heres one more Canadian Only, late 70s Plymouth Caravelle. Basically, a Dodge Diplomat.
