That is indeed Ford's famous part numbering system. Ford will be able to tell you what it came on originally, what cfm it is, and possibly what standard Holley number it crosses to. From your description, I'd say it may be a 3310, 780 cfm, (you said all throttle plates are the same size, right?) The 3310 is an all around good performance carb, if you have the engine to handle it. Let us know here when you identify the carb you have. Tom ... My carb (Motorcraft, 1980 Ford F-150, 351, 2bbl) has a similar number on it.. and, when I replaced it, I found there were several 2 bbl Motorcraft carbs, but they had to have the number to match the "right" one to it. --- Telegard v3.02/mL * Origin: The Other Side * (915) 590-3817 * El Paso, TX, USA (1:381/95) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 155 OLD CARS Ref: DCV00001 Date: 08/25/96 From: DAVID LEVASSSEUR Time: 10:10pm \/To: MIKE EYRE (Read 3 times) Subj: numbers hi mike, i saw you were searching for some numbers, so here goes vin# 136176G127297 the first 5 #'s = model which is sport coupe 2door 5 passenger the #1 =G.M. #3 = chevelle #6 = V8 malibu #17 = 2 door the 6th # which is 6 = the year 1966 the 7th digit which is a G = the assembly plant ( but i dont list a G(g) in my book. are you sure this is correct? the remaining 6 digits = the # produced that year, the first vehicle would be assigned the # 100001. so yours was the 27,297 th produced. my book says that the models of malibu V8's that year totalled 189,300. a super sport for example would have as the first 5 digits equalling 13817 = sport coupe 13867= convertible the underhood numbers refer to body trim, seat material, and paint code used. i cannot find my reference to this. UGH!!! if you can supply the engine # located on the right side of the block near where the head mates to the block (i believe this is the location) i cant get more info as to what horsepower and tranny combination the car came with originally. pay attention to the last 2 or 3 digits they should be letters and not numbers. also check the traany for #s possibly the passenger side (right side) as well as the rear end, usually on a tag on one of the 10 or 12 bolts holding the carrier onto the housing. or along the round axle housing between the hypoid( rear end gears) and the drum assembly. there are more complete books available (called numbers books) probably better than what i have, mine are lots of years old available at possibly speed shops or reproduction parts suppliers.look in auto magazines. hope this helps. adios --- * OLX 2.1 TD * The master and the slave, create each other --- HyperMail! v1.22 * Origin: CENTRAL PARK WEST - FOLSOM CA - 916.351.1476 SUPRA 28.
