The car is a '86 Olds Cutlass Supreme. Someone mentioned that this model and year was subject to a factory recall for a fault in the cruise control equipment. How can I find out if this particular car was ever recalled? Any help appreciated. Thanks... I don't know where Portugal gets WL> its petroleum from, but it's not the U.S.; even the U.S. doesn't WL> get most of its petroleum from the U.S. but from foreign countires. FS> Actually when we foreigners (I'm Canadian) refer to the U.S. we not FS> only the U.S. government but also U.S. companies. Governments don't FS> buy oil, companies like Texaco, Gulf, U.S.A. etc do. There is only two FS> companies in Portugal that are European: Shell and BP (British FS> Petroleum). All others are American or subsidaries of American oil FS> companies. In cities and towns, there are mainly American companies FS> selling the petroleum. Shell and BP are on the highways and Autoroutes FS> (which you have to pay toll to get on) and sell gas about 5 cents FS> cheaper. But the oil does not come from the United States; the companies headquarted in the U.S. are among the most venerable multinational companies (well, Shell probably is even older as a multinational company) and certainly have a global outlook on things. That's why they get their oil from other countries to sell both in the U.S.A. and in other countries. When they are doing business in other countries, they are looking at the market in that country, not the U.S.A. FS> Hear in Canada? There is (I should say was) one Canadian gas company, FS> Petro Canada all the others are American. And gas prices are almost FS> double what you guys down there have to put up with. But how much of that is taxes? Even in the U.S.A., there is a very substantial difference in taxes between different states and that makes a big difference in gasoline prices. Canada, I believe, generally has substantially higher gasoline taxes than most parts of the U.S.A., although not in a class with the taxes in most European countries. ~~~ TGWave v1.01 [NR] --- GEcho 1.11+ * Origin: Parts Etc. *405-799-1371* (1:147/79) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 155 OLD CARS Ref: DBY00024 Date: 07/25/96 From: MICHAEL JONES Time: 11:17pm \/To: NEIL CAMERON (Read 4 times) Subj: 86 Olds Cutlass/Classic... * In a message originally to Matt Bronsil, Neil Cameron said: > Matt: Thanks for the reply. This conference is carried on the FIDO-NET backbone and is moderated by Gerry Calhoun at 1:2004/0. These rules will be subject to change if a change seems needed or is requested. Enforcement of the rules will be handled in the echo and/or via net-mail. Repeated violations of the rules may be considered grounds for the offending node to have its link to this conference cut. Rule #1: Please try to keep your language suitable to all ages. Remember this message base is open to all age groups, and some may take offense to foul language. Rule #2: The topic here is OLD CARS. What makes a car an old car? For the purpose of this echo, a pre 1975 car in general is qualifed to be considered an OLD CAR. But this is a very flexible rule as limited production cars of newer vintage may be considered on topic. If in doubt, ask the Moderator. Rule #3: No unsolicited commerical sales announcements please. This echo is carried by sysops who foot the bills out of their own pockets for the most part. If sommebody asks for a source of a CAR-RELATED item, feel free to offer advice on where to look for something, or to mention that you have what they are looking for. If you have something which you feel may be of interest to somebody here and are NOT in the business of selling that item and it is OLD CAR-related, you may post about it here. Rule #4: No unsolicited BBS ads here. If you know of a system which has a program or file that somebody has asked about, feel free to post the name, phone number and location of the system, but no messages saying "Call this system now" type of thing. Rule #5: Keep the message-quoting to a minimum, please. Most BBS's are run out of the pockets of private sysops, and nobody wants to pay for (or see) a 20-line message quoted in full to have somebody else say "I Agree". Rule #6: Keep the personal attacks to a minimum, please. Everybody has seen messages posted by people who strike you as complete fools, but you do not have to call a person names in order to give an answer or correct him/her on a point. Hold the flames to a mimimum and try to keep this a fun place. These are all the rules for now. If any other points come up in the future, they will be addressed and added to this list if necessary. A guy down the road a few miles has a cherry '58 (except for a cheesey vinyl half top), and there is another '57 in primer in town. Nobody around here knows of a parts source though. I have been though and left my name at all the boneyards in about a 40 mile radius and have not come up with anything. They are even flattening everything out here that is over what seems like 15 years old. Hard to believe some of the cars they flatten. I may get my truck's A/C fixed and make a run up though the central valley someday and check out that area. ST> Please reply here with location and asking price... For ANY '57 Imperial parts.
