It's Federally mandated "reformulated fuel", and since our Governor in one of his few mistakes, "caved" to pressure from Archer-Daniels-Midland to almost outlaw the MBTE(?) fuel (Amoco "Ultimate" is the only one still sold here, and I can't afford that) and only allow fuel that's 10% ethanol (so in effect yes, we are forced to use "gasohol"). On my first tank of this fuel in my 62 Chevy II I starting having trouble. I am wondering if more have had this problem with the fuel or it was just chance that the problem happen then. It acted like the carb. was running out of fuel. I remember in my high school auto shop the teacher telling us that the fuel filter on Chevy carb would let gas pass but not water. If this is so, does the new fuel act like water and will not pass through the filter. The fuel does not smell and yuck taste like gasoline any more. It smells sweet and has one of the worse tast. I sifened some fuel for my lawn mower the otherday. I will go the the gas station next time. Gordon ... The one -> without the supercharger had 10.25:1 pistons and a new cam that gave -> it 240 HP. I remember that. I built up one similar on a bored and DE-stroked 259 block. The studbuster cam that replaced their 'stock' and all the 'soft' camshafts had almost identical timing and duration as the Chev. "Duntov" cam. I had monster intake valves and the exhausts almost touched the intake cavity. Screamingest Stude engine I ever built. Vandals stole the carb (WCFB Carter) off it and left the hood up. When I found it the engine was locked solid. I beat the crap out of the ones I thought might have done it, but never had the satisfaction of sending them up the river.....
